My wife and I are going on another debt free vacation.
What is a debt free vacation?
I’m glad you asked. A debt free vacation is a vacation that is already paid for. Yes, thats right I already paid for my vacation and I haven’t even left yet.
How did I do it?
Easy, I paid for everything using my debit card. I purchased my hotel through Priceline’s Hotel Deals!
I got a rental car through Hotwire for less than $20/day. Plus I purchased my airline tickets on Southwest airlines, yes I live in Dallas, TX and this is the cheapest way to fly, especially when you purchase in advance.
So there you have it, nothing was put on a credit card, ever. I did however call Avis rental car and made sure that they except my debit car for incidentals. I already paid it through priceline but they still have to have something on file, and Avis does accept debit cards, but you must call and ask them first because not all of them do.
Where am I going?
We are going to Disneyworld and Universal Studios Florida. You would think it’s a quick cheap trip but oh no my friend, tickets for each park are $75/each, so thats $300 base price just for park admissions.
I know, what you are thinking is probably what I said, that’s insane, there is no way i’m paying that much. But we will have a great time enjoying ourselves and living the debt free life.
Did I mention the hotel was $50/night at a 4 star resort. Staying 4 nights, 5 days.
Part of the reason that we are going on this vacation to begin with is because we are very direct about being out of debt. There is no ifs or buts about my wife and I being free of debt. There are so many people that indirectly get into debt that its hard for them to manage their finances, so they fall apart. It’s important to be debt free direct with people, not being around the bush.
If you really care about someone you should tell them about how to properly run their finances. I do it all the time and let me tell you why. True friends always end up coming back to you to ask for advice. I’d rather help my friends on the front end than have to walk them through a huge amount of debt. I’ve been down that path and it’s not fun, although its a humbling experience and having gone through it makes me never want to go through it again much less a close friend.
So the next time your close friend talks to you about buying that new SUV or new home that they cannot afford, do not be indirect, tell them directly how you feel, it may save them from a financial crisis. Many people are not going to listen but at least you know that did your part of raising the red flag.
Who knows, they may invite you to join them on their own debt free vacation.
🙂
This is the type of vacation we want to take when we are debt free! Good Job and thanks for keeping us informed about how it is like to live like no one else. It is definitely helping us to stay focused!!!
