A lot has been changing in my household lately. For one, my wife and I are expecting a baby girl in November 2010, our first. We are already starting to make preparations for when she arrives. So yes, the title is true, my family tree is changing.
I have also asked my wife to stay at home and continue working on her PhD school work. I wanted her to rest and have time to herself before the baby gets here. This would never have been possible if we didn’t have an emergency fund in place. I have to tell you that fund is a huge security blanket for us. Whenever we start to think about costs related to the baby, we just say, well good thing we have an emergency fund.
A baby is not an emergency but the fund is at a size where we can use some of the funds for medical bills. I’ve heard having a baby can get expensive, especially without insurance and cash on hand. Over the next few months we plan on making some serious changes.
We are trying to sell our home at the moment. We have been contemplating moving for some time now and so we put our house on the market for the summer. We had two contacts on the house, both of which fell through. I have since done some repairs around the house and we are starting to get more traffic.
We also plan to purchase a new vehicle. We currently own two four door vehicles, but I think this next one may be like an SUV. The only problem is that I don’t do car payments. I’m done making payments so I am looking at best way to pay cash for a car and get the best return for my money.
Can you imagine, paying cash for a car, I can and I’m going to do everything possible to do it. This is something I have never done before so I’m looking forward to the experience.
car payments stink. don’t go there.
Yes, having a children change the way we think about managing our financial. I have 3 myself & I what I can say is that you need to have sufficient money for their needs such as milk, drypers & education. With increasing cost to live, thing are getting more difficult. Good luck to you & family.
