I don’t want to put a damper on Valentines Day because it is a special day. Many argue that every day should be special and that we should treat each other with love on a daily basis. Yes, that all sounds good but the day will still come and we either jump on board or decide to ignore the day altogether.
Valentines does not have to be about money either, sure there are some gifts that require a purchase but you know how the says goes, it’s the thought that counts. When you put a lot of thought into a gift, you flat out end up paying less than those who wait for the last minute to get something for that special someone.
You should always budget for gifts. Talk to your spouse or significant other and give each other a budget on an amount that each of you can spend and spend it. Make it a fun day. It stops getting fun when you think about how much you are spending and about other things that you could be spending your money on. Listen if you are worried about spending $25-$50 than more than likely you need to stay home, eat a homecooked meal and rent a movie from Redbox for $1.
I’m being serious because there are people who are broke who will be eating at a fancy restaurant and putting the bill on their credit card which has a logo of their favorite sports team on the front, blugh. There is nothing romantic about putting a Valentines meal on a credit card because you don’t have the money to pay for it. You want to be romantic, learn to manage your money so your wife can feel financially secure and you can stop having money fights. Give your wife cash for Valentines Day and take her to her favorite store and let her spend every last penny on herself. You want a happy partner, give her what she really needs, a man who makes decisions for his family and not for himself.
Have a Happy Valentines Day this Sunday everyone, I get to speak to people about finances this Sunday, how fun.
